This weird ass thing is a base watercolor wash on clay board. I’m going to paint and work over this but I often find the textures of these interesting to look at by themselves. I achieved this effect with granulation medium - table salt and rock salt.
This piece of board is bigger than my scanner so some of the edges are missing but you can see the general effect.
Not sure when I’ll get the rest of the painting done but at least this step, which is the most finicky, is done.
Also whoever said there was no major difference in working with smooth as opposed to textured clayboard is a horrible rotten liar that I need to have words with.
